As of July 2010, The GDC Office of Professional Standards, in conjunction with local & federal law enforcement partners, have investigated or arrested approximately 682 staff and civilians for introducing contraband into prisons throughout the state.

On Sunday, January 2, 2011, Jasharie Grimes and Evelyn Zellars were arrested at Calhoun State Prison in Morgan. Grimes admitted giving drugs to an inmate and having additional drugs in her vehicle. The women were in the same vehicle and both arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office. Grimes and Zellars are charged with Crossing the Guardline with Drugs and Contraband (including money) and Possession of Drugs with intent to Distribute.

1) On Saturday, July 9, 2011, Mayosie Jairetha Davis was arrested at Telfair State Prison in Helena. She was visiting an inmate when an officer observed her passing a potato chip bag to the inmate. The bag contained five rubber balloons filled with marijuana. The Helena Police Department assisted.

  1. On May 8, 2015, at Calhoun State Prison, Officer Vershundra Curry was arrested in the parking lot by a joint task force to include the Calhoun County Sherriff’s office. Curry was charged with conspiracy to enter Institution with prohibited items.

On Saturday, January 15, 2011, Samantha Miller and Brittany Laundry were arrested at Calhoun State Prison in Morgan. Officers discovered drugs in their vehicle during a routine search and Miller had additional drugs in her possession. The Calhoun County Sheriff�s Office assisted.

Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities

On Sunday, February 20, 2011 Briahna Head was arrested at Autry State Prison in Pelham. Head was at the facility visiting an inmate when an officer observed her on a live video feed placing something in a bag and giving it to the inmate. The inmate was searched and officers found marijuana. The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office assisted.
