Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
**MORE THAN 656 CIVILIANS AND 136 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**
1) On November 5, 2013 at Smith State Prison a search was conducted on Officer Gloria Hayes by a Lieutenant and Sergeant at the facility. Four vacuumed packed bundles of a green leafy substance, totaling 4.7 ounces, was found on her person. The green leafy substance tested positive for marijuana. Officer Hayes was taken into custody by the Glennville Police Department.
On November 6, 2013 at Rogers State Prison, a Tattnall County Deputy observed a blue Dodge Dart traveling on Highway 147 towards the prison reservation. The vehicle was weaving and a traffic stop was initiated. Civilian Yolanda Stubbs (driver) informed the officer she was lost. A brown paper bag was observed in the back floor board. Civilian Stubbs gave consent to search her vehicle. The deputy found 121 packages of tobacco and 10 packages of rolling papers in the paper bag. Civilian Stubbs stated she was paid $100 to drive Parolee Vershunt Mosley to the prison in order to drop off the items at the facility for an inmate. Civilian Stubbs and Parolee Mosley were arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff's Office.
3) On November 9, 2013 at Calhoun State Prison, Front Entry Officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana when visitor Leanne Bearden entered the Front Entry gate for visitation. When visitor Bearden was questioned, she admitted to having drugs on her person. A search was conducted and 10.2 ounces of marijuana, 5.2 ounces of tobacco and 4 ounces of crystal meth were found. Calhoun County Sheriff's Office conducted a search of her vehicle and found a small amount of marijuana and several green dot cards. Visitor Bearden was arrested.
