Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
**MORE THAN 565 CIVILIANS AND 103 STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED TO DATE FOR ATTEMPTING TO INTRODUCE CONTRABAND INTO GDC FACILITIES.**
1) On February 20, 2013, Smith State Prison CERT Team searched the vehicle of Officer Hakima Howard with the Glennville Police Department. Upon searching her vehicle, officers found four bundles (weighing 5.6 oz) of THC and 3 grams of meth. Officer Howard was arrested by the Tattnall County Police Department.
2) On February 23, 2013, Visitor Justine Sijmons was observed spitting a balloon into a drink purchased from the vending machine during visitation at Valdosta State Prison. The balloon contained approximately one gram of THC. Visitor Sijmons was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
