Contraband Arrests at GDC Facilities
1) On Monday, October 10, 2011, warrants were taken out on Ray Searcy and Marion Jackson. Both work as Correctional Officers at Macon State Prison in Oglethorpe. Officer Searcy arrived at the prison and could not clear the metal detector. Three cell phones were found in his possession and he left the facility without authorization. Later the same day, Officer Jackson was searched and tobacco and marijuana were found in his possession and he was arrested.
2) On Sunday, October 16, 2011, Betty Overbaugh was arrested by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at Central State Prison in Macon. She was at the facility to visit an inmate when tobacco was found in her possession.
3) On Tuesday, October 18 2011, Roneal White and Makeda Davis were arrested by the Tattnall County Sheriff's Office at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville. The two were seen in a vehicle near the prison and authorities were called. They admitted to dropping off contraband near the facility and authorities found 22 packs of tobacco and six packs of marijuana. White also told authorities of another location where 10 packs of marijuana were dropped off.
The Department of Corrections is committed to identifying and pursuing prosecution of those persons who attempt to introduce contraband into state facilities.
