New Statewide Assistant Transitional Center Coordinator Named

Carlotta Ficklin Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Carlotta Ficklin to Statewide Assistant Transitional Center Coordinator effective December 1, 2017. As Assistant Coordinator, Ficklin will be responsible for the supervision and support of the daily operations of the state’s 13 Transitional Centers. Her areas of responsibility will include security operations, administrative support, business operations, food services, employment services, offender programming, care and treatment, community reentry and medical services.

“Carlotta has dedicated more than 20 years of service to the Department starting as a Probation Officer and worked her way up,” said Commissioner Dozier. “Her commitment to never stop learning and improving over the course of two decades on the job guarantees she will be a great asset at the statewide level and is ready for all the responsibilities that come with supervising the state’s 13 Transitional Centers.”

Ficklin began her career with the Department in 1993 as a Probation Officer in the Clayton Judicial Circuit. In 1996, she was transferred to the Augusta Probation Office. When the Augusta Transitional Center opened in 2002, Ficklin became the Employment Manager. By 2016, she was promoted to her current position as the Superintendent at Augusta Transitional Center.

Ficklin has a degree in Communications from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. She has completed the following departmental training: Basic Probation Officer Training (BPOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), Advanced Management Training (AMT), and Executive Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT). Ficklin is also certified by the National Institute of Corrections as an Offender Employment Specialist.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
