New Deputy Warden of Security Named at Whitworth Women’s Facility
Carrie Yearwood Promoted
FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier announced the promotion of Carrie Yearwood to Deputy Warden of Security at Whitworth Women’s Facility (WF), effective August 1, 2017. As Deputy Warden, Yearwood will be responsible for supervising and managing 70 security staff members and 428 medium security female offenders.
“In her 10 years with the Department, Carrie has worked her way up through the ranks from Correctional Officer to Deputy Warden,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We are excited to have her join the team at Whitworth, and we look forward to her continued success.”
Yearwood began her career with the Department in 2007 as a Correctional Officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison (LASP). In 2009, she was promoted to Sergeant, and oversaw the Office of Inmate Discipline. During her tenure at LASP, she served as CERT Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Unit Manager. In 2016, Yearwood transferred to Unit Manager at Phillips State Prison, where she currently serves.
Yearwood has completed the following departmental training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Sergeant’s Academy, CERT Basic Training, Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI) and Deputy Warden Academy.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees.
