New Superintendent Named at Dual Facilities in Evans County - Ricky Salter Promoted at Smith Transitional Center & Womenï¿½s Probation Detention Center
FORSYTH, Ga. ï¿½ Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Homer Bryson announced the promotion of Ricky Salter as Superintendent of both Smith Transitional Center and Womenï¿½s Probation Detention Center, effective April 16, 2015. As Superintendent, Salter will be responsible for overseeing 84 staff members, 234 female detainees, and 211 male residents at both facilities.
ï¿½Ricky is a dedicated employee who has excelled through the ranks during his 23 year career with the Department. I am confident he will do a great job as Superintendent over the facilities,ï¿½ said Commissioner Homer Bryson.
Salter began his career with the Department in 1992 as a Counselor at Womenï¿½s Probation Detention Center (PDC). In 1993, Salter was promoted to Senior Counselor at Womenï¿½s PDC, and in 2003, he was promoted to Behavior Health Counselor at same facility. In 2013, Salter was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at Smith Transitional Center and Womenï¿½s PDC, where he has most recently served.
Salter has earned a Bachelorï¿½s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia. During his career with the Department he has completed the following training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Basic Management Training (BMT), and Advanced Management Training (AMT).
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
