19 Offenders Graduate from Faith & Character Based Program

Baldwin State Prison hosts ceremony

FORSYTH, Ga. – On April 6, Baldwin State Prison hosted a graduation ceremony, recognizing 19 offenders who completed the yearlong Faith and Character Based (F&CB) program. Guest speaker, Lorenzo King, who volunteers as a life coach for the Georgia Department of Corrections, spoke on the theme of “Striving for Excellence.”

“This was one of the largest groups to successfully complete the Faith & Character Based program, since it came to Baldwin five years ago,” said Commissioner Dozier. “We are proud of the offenders’ hard work, and encourage them to continue participating in GDC programming.”

The F&CB program is a secular program that focuses on personal and spiritual growth and development. The curriculum is divided into four phases: Foundation, Discovery, Transformation, and Transition. Baldwin is one of several GDC facilities that hosts a F&CB dorm. The dorm provides a pro-social, programmatic environment for change, for offenders who voluntarily request to participate.

The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 52,000 state prisoners. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 10,500 employees. For more information on the GDC call 478-992-5248 or visit http://www.gdc.ga.gov.
