Employee of the Year Named - Dewanda Brisco Honored
FORSYTH - Ga. - The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) honored Dewanda Brisco of Baldwin State Prison as Employee of the Year at the Tenth Annual GDC Awards ceremony on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth, Georgia.
"Dewanda is an excellent example of why we honor our employees," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "Her 27 years of selfless devotion to the Department make her a deserving recipient of this award."
The Employee of the Year award recipient promotes positive relations with co-workers, offenders, the judiciary, volunteers, partners and the community by continuously displaying courtesy, dignity and respect.
Over the past 17 years, Brisco has maintained a positive attitude which has been an invaluable asset to the staff at Baldwin State Prison. Recently, the facility has undergone renovations to the kitchen that caused staff to utilize a mobile kitchen. Brisco's flexibility and ability to quickly adapt to these changes resulted in an overall score of 100 percent during a joint State Health Department and Baldwin County Health Inspector assessment.
Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by more than 200 guests. Making the award presentation with the Commissioner were Assistant Commissioner Timothy C. Ward, Board of Corrections Vice Chair Rose Williams, and special guest speakers Mercer University Athletic Director Jim Cole and Mercer University Men's Basketball Head Coach Bob Hoffman.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 55,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
