Corrections Appoints New Special Management Unit Superintendent - Rodney McCloud Assigned to Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison
Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Rodney McCloud as Superintendent of the Special Management Unit at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison effective April 1, 2014. McCloud is responsible for the administration of the unit, which houses the state's most serious offenders located in Jackson, Ga.
"Rodney is a Corrections professional who has exhibited excellent leadership qualities throughout his career with the Department," said Commissioner Owens. "I have full confidence in his abilities as he assumes this new role."
McCloud began his career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1993 as a Correctional Officer at Telfair State Prison. He was a member of the Corrections Emergency Response Team and was promoted to Sergeant at Rogers State Prison in 2002. He was promoted to Captain in 2012 at Rogers State Prison and to Unit Manager at Telfair State Prison later that year. He currently manages the Tier Special Management Units at Telfair State Prison.
McCloud served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division from 1986-1992. During that time, he deployed to Iraq during Operation Desert Storm.
McCloud completed numerous departmental training courses, including Disciplinary Investigator; Performance Management Training; Effective Communications Training; Basic Management Training (BMT); Professional Management Training (PMP); Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI); Advanced Management Training (AMT); and Warden's Pre-Command.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
