New Warden Named at Montgomery State Prison - Tamala Brown Reassigned
Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Tamala Brown as Warden of Montgomery State Prison effective October 16, 2013. The facility is located in Mount Vernon, Georgia. As Warden, Brown will be responsible for overseeing 86 staff members and 418 medium security male inmates.
"Tamala has faithfully served the Department in many facets over the past 30 years," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "She is truly a great asset to the Department and we look forward to her leadership at Montgomery State Prison."
Brown joined the Department in 1983 as a Correctional Officer at Rogers State Prison. In 1987, she became a Counselor and served in this capacity at Rogers, Smith, Ware and Wayne State Prisons. In 2004, she was promoted to Deputy Warden Security and Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Wayne State Prison. Brown was promoted to Warden in July 2008 at Wayne State Prison. In November 2008, she was promoted to Warden at Long State Prison where she most recently served. Brown earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Georgia Southern University.
The GDC has one of the largest prison systems in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and more than 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
