Commissioner Names New Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment - Terri Bussey Promoted

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announces the promotion of Terri Bussey as Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Augusta State Medical Prison effective August 1, 2012. As Deputy Warden, Bussey is responsible for supervising the education, health services, library, counseling, mental health counseling and the children’s center areas at the facility housing 1,266 male inmates located in Groveton.

"We are proud to have Deputy Warden Bussey on our staff," said Commissioner Owens. "Her wealth of knowledge will serve her well in this position."

Bussey began her career in with GDC in 1984 as a Correctional Officer at Augusta State Medical Prison and was promoted to Counselor in 1995. In 2004, she joined Probation Operations as a Counselor at the Augusta Probation Office. Bussey was promoted to Assistant Superintendent at the Athens Diversion Center in 2006, and a year later she was named Center Administrator at the Athens Day Reporting Center. In 2008, she returned to Augusta State Medical Prison as Chief Counselor, where she most recently served.

Bussey earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Paine College and her Master of Science degree from Central Michigan University.

The GDC is the fourth largest prison system in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
