New Warden Named at Valdosta State Prison - Cedric Taylor Assigned

FORSYTH, Ga. – Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announces the assignment of Cedric Taylor as Warden of Valdosta State Prison effective August 1, 2012. He will be responsible for overseeing 417 staff members and 1,476 male inmates at the facility located in Valdosta.

"Warden Taylor is a veteran in the Department," said Commissioner Owens. "We look forward to the leadership and experience he will bring to Valdosta State Prison."

Taylor has more than 20 years of experience with the Department. He began his career at Hays State Prison working to the rank of Sergeant. In 1998, he became an Instructor for the Special Operations Unit in Forsyth and was promoted to Deputy Warden of Security at Hays in 2007. Taylor was named Director of Special Operations in 2009 before being named Warden at Autry State Prison in 2010, where he most recently served. Taylor received his Bachelor of Science degree from Thomas University.

The GDC is the fourth largest prison system in the U.S. and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
