Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Marsha Cook of Abbeville to Deputy Warden of Administration at Wilcox State Prison effective July 1, 2012.
AAs Deputy Warden, she will be responsible for overseeing the Business Office, property and supply operations and maintenance and food service departments at the medium security prison for men housing 1,834 inmates. Cook will also serve as a duty officer.
Cook joined the department in 1994 as an Accounting Clerk at Wilcox and was promoted to Accounting Tech I within six months. In 2005, she was promoted to Accounting Tech II and was named Business Manager in 2003. Cook received her Bachelor of Science from Louisiana Tech University in 1986.
"Deputy Warden Cook has been committed to carrying out the department’s mission since 1994," said Owens. "She has worked her way up through the ranks, and we look forward to her leadership at Wilcox State Prison."
The Department of Corrections is the fourth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
