Forsyth - Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of George Curry of LaFayette as Deputy Warden of Security at Walker State Prison effective July 1, 2012.
As Deputy Warden, Curry is responsible for supervising and managing all security staff and the overall management and operation at the Rock Springs medium security faith and character based prison.
"Deputy Warden Curry is a dedicated and valuable employee and is committed to helping the department carry out its mission," said Owens. "We look forward to his leadership and experience at Walker State Prison."
Curry joined the department in 1996 after serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was promoted to Correctional Officer II in 1997, Key and Tool Sergeant in 2005, Lieutenant in 2006 and Chief of Security in 2011 all while at Walker. He holds an Associate degree and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at Thomas University.
The Department of Corrections is the fourth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
