Forsyth - The Department of Corrections named Partner Agencies of the Year at the Eighth Annual GDC Awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth.
"This award honors those who help us carry out the Department’s mission," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "On behalf of the Department of Corrections, I want to thank every organization for their continued support," added Owens.
The winners and facilities are as follows:
Cornelia Rotary Club – Lee Arrendale State Prison
Georgia Department of Labor, Augusta Office – Coastal State Prison
Georgia State Patrol Peer Support Team – Central Human Resources
District Attorney Craig Fraser, Dublin – Johnson State Prison
Macon Parole Office – Macon Transitional Center
The Mustard Seed Counseling Service – Mountain Judicial Circuit
US Marshals Service – Office of investigations and Compliance
Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office – Rogers & Georgia State Prisons
Vocational Rehabilitation, Tifton – Valdosta Transitional Center
Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by 200 guests. Making the award presentation with the Commissioner were Board of Corrections Secretary Rose Williams, Assistant Commissioner Timothy C. Ward and special guest speaker, State Representative Jay Neal.
The Department of Corrections is the fourth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 12,000 employees.
