Forsyth – Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Sharon Shaver as Deputy Director of Operations, Planning, and Training Division (OPTD). OPTD manages the operations of Planning, Training, Re-Entry Services, Information Technology, Health Services, Fire and Safety Services, Communications Center and Campus Operations at State Offices South at Tift College.
"Sharon has been a valuable asset to our agency for 14 years," said Commissioner Brian Owens. "Her knowledge and experience will serve her well in this position," added Owens.
Shaver began her career with the Department in 1997 as an Accountant Paraprofessional at Bostick State Prison. She has also served as Business Manager, Deputy Warden of Administration, Director of the Offender Administration Unit and most recently as Campus Superintendent of State Offices South at Tift College. Shaver earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Georgia College and State University and a Masters degree in Public Administration at Columbus State University. She is also a graduate of Basic Correctional Officer Training and has served as a Peace Officer Standards and Training Certified Adjunct Instructor.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
