Forsyth – Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of David Frazier as Warden of Telfair State Prison effective July 1, 2011. The facility is located in Helena and houses Close Security male offenders. As Warden, Frazier will be responsible for overseeing 320 staff members and 1,192 inmates.
“I am confident Warden Frazier’s experience and knowledge will serve him well at Telfair State Prison,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “I look forward to hearing great things about him and his new facility,” added Owens.
Frazier joined the Department in 1986 as a Correctional Officer at Rivers State Prison. He has also served as
Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Deputy Warden. Frazier was first promoted Warden in 2006 at Hancock State Prison and most recently served as Warden at Washington State Prison. Frazier is a 1996 graduate of Georgia Military College.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
