GDC Names Partner Agencies of the Year

Forsyth - The Department of Corrections named Partner Agencies of the Year at the Seventh Annual GDC Awards program on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth.

“This award honors those who help us do our jobs,” said Commissioner Brian Owens.  “On behalf of the Department of Corrections, I want to thank every organization for their continued support,” added Owens.

The winners and facilities are as follows:

Brunswick Police Department – Brunswick Probation Office
Brunswick Weed & Seed Re-Entry Initiative – Brunswick Probation Office
Macon Parole Office – Macon Transitional Center
Mercer Medicine – Macon Transitional Center
Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office – Rogers State Prison
Vocational Rehabilitation/DOL, Macon – Macon Transitional Center
Wrightsville Police Department – Johnson State Prison

Several key officials were on hand for the ceremony, which was attended by 200 guests.  Making the award presentation with the Commissioner were Board of Corrections Chairman Jim Whitehead, Sr., Assistant Corrections Commissioner Fredrick J. Head, State Representative Jay Neal and special guest speaker, State Personnel Administration Commissioner Joe Doyle.

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
