New Chief Probation Officer Named For Eastern Judicial Circuit

Forsyth – Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Georg Trexler to Chief Probation Officer for the Eastern Judicial Circuit effective March 16, 2011.  Chief Trexler will be responsible for the oversight of 43 staff members and the supervision of all felony probationers in the Eastern Judicial Circuit.   

“Georg has been dedicated to the Department’s Probation Operations for 25 years,” said Commissioner Brian Owens.  “His knowledge and experience will be valuable to the staff and probationers in his new circuit,” added Owens.

Trexler began his career with the Department in 1986 as a Probation Officer I in the Brunswick Probation Office. He has also served as Office Manager in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit, Intensive Probation Supervision/Specialized Probation Supervision Officer for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit and Probation Officer III in the Jesup Probation Office.  Trexler most recently served as Probation Officer III/Office Manager in the Brunswick Probation Office. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Auburn University and has completed several GDC management courses.  Trexler is also a sworn member of the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force and an active member of the Southeast Probation Correctional Emergency Response Team. 

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
