New Superintendent Named at Bacon Probation Detention Center

Forsyth - Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Dannie Thompson as Superintendent at Bacon Probation Detention Center effective March 1, 2011.  The facility is located in Alma and houses minimum security probationers.  As Superintendent, Thompson will oversee 62 staff members and 232 probationers.

“I am confident everyone at the Bacon Probation Detention Center will benefit from Dannie’s experience,” said Commissioner Brian Owens.  “His knowledge and professionalism have proved invaluable and will serve him well,” added Owens.

Thompson joined the Department in 1987 as a Correctional Officer.  He has also served as Canine Handler, Training Instructor and Captain.  He was first promoted to Warden in 2002 at Wayne State Prison.  He has held that position at Coastal State Prison, Calhoun State Prison and most recently Smith State Prison.

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
