2011 Board of Corrections Officers Elected
Tommy Rouse to Serve as Chairman
Forsyth - Tommy Rouse was elected Vice Chairman of the Board of Corrections by members of the Board on December 2, 2010. Rouse was appointed to the Board by Governor Sonny Perdue in 2004 to represent the 1st Congressional District. The Board of Corrections has 18 members, one from each congressional district in the state and five members from the state at large. Board Members are appointed by the Governor to staggered five year terms.
“Mr. Rouse has brought a wealth of knowledge and Corrections experience to the Board of Corrections,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “We all look forward to him serving in this role,” added Owens.
Rouse is a retired District Manager for Behavioral Intervention, Inc. where he managed and directed probation supervision services for state, probate and municipal courts in several Georgia counties. He also retired from the Department of Corrections in 1996 after 30 years of employment.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
