Bruce Chatman Appointed Warden at Georgia State Prison

Forsyth Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment Bruce Chatman as Warden of Georgia State Prison effective December 16, 2010.  The facility is located in Reidsville and houses 1486 male inmates.

“Warden Chatman continues to serve as a great example for what the Department looks for when selecting someone to lead a facility,” said Commissioner Brian Owens.  “I am confident his leadership will greatly benefit Georgia State Prison,” added Owens.

Chatman began his career with the Department in 1984 as a Correctional Officer at Augusta State Medical Prison.  He has also served as Lieutenant and Deputy Warden of Security.  He was first appointed to Warden at Washington State Prison in 1999 and most recently served as Warden at Autry State Prison.

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
