Commissioner Appoints New Deputy Director of
Administration and Operations Support

Mark Morris Appointed

AtlantaThe Department of Corrections announces the appointment of Mark Morris as Deputy Director of Administration and Operations Support for Probation Operations effective July 1, 2010. In this position, Morris will oversee the Probation Options Management, Probation Field Services, and the Sex Offender Administration Unit.

“Mark brings a wealth of experience to this position,” said Commissioner Owens. “His commitment to excellence is invaluable,” Owens added.

Morris began with the Department as a Probation Officer in 1990. In 2005, he was promoted to Chief Probation Officer of the Macon Judicial Circuit. Prior to his new appointment, he was the Field Operations Manager for the Southwest area where he was responsible for supervising 13 judicial circuits. He is married with two children, and currently resides in Gray, Georgia.

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
