Atlanta– Commissioner Brian Owens announced the appointment of Johnny Sikes as Deputy Director of Facility Operations effective July 1, 2010. Sikes will help oversee day-to-day operations in the Corrections Division, serving under the Facilities Director.
“Johnny has worked his way up through the ranks for the past 29 years,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “I am honored to see him serve the Department in this capacity,” added Owens.
Sikes joined the Department in 1981 as a Counselor Associate at Georgia State Prison. He has served as Administrative Assistant, Project Coordinator, Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, Warden and Southeast Regional Director. Sikes most recently served as Field Operations Manager in the South Region. He has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University.The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 14,000 employees.
