New Warden Named for Montgomery State Prison

Lyons Resident Tom Gramiak Appointed

AtlantaThe Department of Corrections announces the appointment of Tom Gramiak as Warden of Montgomery State Prison effective July 1, 2010. The facility is located in Mt. Vernon, Georgia.

“Warden Gramiak exemplifies the traits we look for in a Warden,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “His strong work ethic and leadership skills set a fine example for others to follow,” added Owens.

Mr. Gramiak began his career at Telfair State Prison as a Correctional Officer in 1992.  While at Smith State Prison, he was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant.  Upon his promotion to Captain, he transferred to Rivers State Prison and Baldwin State Prisons respectively.  In 2000, he was promoted as the Assistant Superintendent at McEver Probation Detention Center.  He remained at that facility until his promotion to Deputy Warden of Security at Macon State Prison.  In 2003 he transferred to Montgomery State Prison as the Deputy Warden of Security.  As Warden at Montgomery State Prison, Gramiak will be responsible for overseeing 418 Medium-Security male offenders and 103 employees.  He currently resides in Lyons, Georgia with his wife. 


The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
