New Warden Named for Macon State Prison
Gregory McLaughlin Appointed
Atlanta – The Department of Corrections announces the appointment of Gregory McLaughlin as Warden of Macon State Prison effective July 1, 2010. The facility is located in Oglethorpe, Georgia.
“McLaughlin has shown that he is a dedicated leader,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “I am confident that his leadership capabilities will be an asset to the facility,” added Owens.
Warden McLaughlin has risen through the Correctional ranks, starting as a Correctional Officer and later serving as Deputy Warden of Security. McLaughlin most recently served as Warden of Lee State Prison. At Macon State Prison, he will be responsible for overseeing approximately 1,760 inmates and 336 staff members. Mr. McLaughlin is a native of Telfair County, Georgia.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 13,000 employees.
