New Warden Named for Rutledge State Prison
Atlanta – The Department of Corrections announces the appointment of Anthony Washington as Warden of Rutledge State Prison effective January 1, 2010. Rutledge State Prison is located in Columbus, Georgia. Warden Washington will oversee approximately 940 inmates and 168 staff members.
“Warden Washington has worked his way up through the ranks since joining the Department in 1983,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “I am confident Rutledge State Prison will benefit from his leadership and years of experience.”
Warden Washington began his career with the Department as a Correctional Officer in 1983. His previous positions include Captain, Deputy Warden of Security, and most recently, Warden at Johnson State Prison.
The Department of Corrections is the fourth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 14,000 employees.
