Atlanta – The Department of Corrections announces the appointment of Victor Walker as Warden of Hancock State Prison effective January 1, 2010. Hancock State Prison is located in Sparta, Georgia. Warden Walker will oversee approximately 1,320 close security inmates and 385 staff members.
“Warden Walker is committed to Department’s mission of running safe and secure facilities,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “I know his leadership and years of experience will benefit the facility.”
Warden Walker began his career with the Department as a Correctional Officer in 1985. He has served as the Warden for several correctional facilities; most recently of Augusta State Medical Prison.The Department of Corrections is the fourth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 14,000 employees.
