New Chief Probation Officer Named For Toombs
Judicial Circuit

AtlantaCommissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Peggy Elliott as the new Chief Probation Officer for the Toombs Judicial Circuit effective December 1, 2009.  Chief Elliott will coordinate probation services for felony offenders in Wilkes, McDuffie, Lincoln, Glasscock, Warren and Taliaferro counties.

“The Department is pleased to promote Officer Elliott,” said Commissioner Brian Owens.  “We look forward to seeing her excel in this new role.”

Elliott has worked with the Department for 25 years.  She has served as Probation Officer I/II, Community Service Coordinator, Intensive/Sex Offender Officer, Probation Officer III and most recently Program Development Consultant for Probation Operations.  She is also a POST Certified Instructor.   

Elliott holds a BS degree from the University of Georgia and a Masters degree from Columbus University.  She is a member of the Georgia Probation Association, the American Probation and Parole Association and the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation.

The Department of Corrections is the fourth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 14,000 employees.
