Atlanta – The Georgia Department of Corrections will celebrate the “Voices of Hope” album release at Metro State Prison on Wednesday, August 26 at 10:00am. “Voices of Hope,” the women’s choir from Metro State Prison, recently recorded the album during a live performance at Emory University. The choir, led by Chaplain Susan Bishop, was joined by Emily Sailers of the Grammy award winning Indigo Girls. The album release event will include music from the choir and special guest Emily Sailers, a CD presentation and remarks from Commissioner Brian Owens. Proceeds from the sale of the CD will go towards the Georgia Prison Ministries. Media planning to attend should contact the Public Affairs Office.
The Department of Corrections is the fourth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 14,000 employees.
