Atlanta – The Department of Corrections announces the appointment of Steve Roberts as Warden at Hancock State Prison effective June 29, 2009. Hancock State Prison is located in Sparta, Georgia. Warden Roberts will oversee 1,311 inmates and 325 staff members.
“It’s an honor to give Warden Roberts responsibility of Hancock State Prison,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “I look forward to hearing great things from this facility under his leadership.”
Warden Roberts began his career with the Department in 1981. He has held positions at Coastal, Ware and Georgia State Prisons. He most recently served as Warden at Washington State Prison. Warden Roberts is married with three children.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 15,000 employees.
