Atlanta – Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Cedric Taylor as Manager of the Special Operations Unit effective July 16, 2009. Taylor will be responsible for the Canine Unit, Tactical Squads and Correctional Emergency Response Teams.
“Taylor has demonstrated outstanding skills and dedication since he started with the Department 17 years ago,” said Commissioner Owens. “I am confident that he will excel in his new role.”
Taylor held positions to include Correctional Officer, Sergeant, Instructor, and most recently Deputy Warden of Security at Hays State Prison. He is a native of Barnesville, Georgia and has two daughters.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 14,000 employees.
