Atlanta – The Department of Corrections honored the Macon Judicial Circuit as Probation Circuit of the Year at the Fifth Annual GDC Awards program on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 on the historic Tift College Campus in Forsyth.
“We are proud to recognize the hard work of the staff and leadership in this probation circuit,” said Commissioner Brian Owens. “They have set the bar high for other Corrections facilities.”
The Macon Judicial Circuit consistently scores well on various GDC “report card” measures, which includes audits, turnover and vacancy rates. Forty-eight staff members are responsible for 2,583 probationers.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 160,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 15,000 employees.
