New Chief Probation Officer Named For Macon Judicial Circuit

Atlanta – Commissioner Brian Owens announced the promotion of Stacy Riveria as the new Chief Probation Officer for the Macon Judicial Circuit effective May 16, 2009.  Chief Riveria will be responsible for the oversight of 48 staff members and the supervision of all felony probationers in the Macon Judicial Circuit.

“Officer Riveria has been a great asset to the Department,” said Commissioner Owens.  “We are pleased to promote her and see her excel in this new role.”

Riveria began her career in law enforcement in 1984 with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Department, where she served as a Deputy Sheriff for ten years.  She began working with the Department in 2000 as a Probation Officer in the Columbus Probation Office.  In 2005, Riveria transferred to the Macon Probation Office and was later promoted to Probation Officer III.  Riveria serves as an adjunct instructor for the Department’s Basic Probation Officer Training and is a member of the Georgia Probation Association and the American Probation and Parole Association.  Riveria is a 2000 graduate of Columbus State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers.  It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 15,000 employees.
