Pelham – Department of Corrections’ staff attended a Change of Responsibility Ceremony on Thursday, August 21, 2008. During the ceremony, Warden Terry Duffey received responsibility for Autry State Prison.
“I am proud to see Warden Duffey work his way up from Correctional Officer to Warden,” said Commissioner James E. Donald. “I’m confident in his experience and look forward to hearing good things come out of Autry State Prison.”
Warden Duffey is a 26-year veteran of the Department of Corrections. He began his career as a Correctional Officer at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. Warden Duffey is retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves and served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Autry State Prison houses 1631 close security general population inmates. Warden Duffey will oversee 417 employees.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 15,000 employees.
