Atlanta – The Department of Corrections is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Ammons as Warden at Coastal State Prison in Garden City, Georgia.
“Warden Ammons has been an asset to this Department for many years,” said Commissioner James E. Donald. “I am confident the facility and staff will benefit from his experience.”
Warden Ammons began his career with the Department 26 years ago. He started as a Correctional Officer at Ware State Prison in Waycross, Georgia. He was first promoted to Warden at Wayne State Prison in Odum, Georgia in 2002.
The mission at Coastal State Prison is to provide diagnostic and intake services. Warden Ammons will oversee 1578 inmates and 432 staff members.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 15,000 employees.
