ATLANTA–Corrections Commissioner James E. Donald announced the appointment of Becky East as the new Administration Division Director for the Georgia Department of Corrections. East will assume her new appointment effective July 1, 2008. The Administration Division has two main functions in supporting the Department: Financial Management which involves the development, allocation and management of resources to support the operations and strategic directions of the Department. It also ensures the proper execution of agency financial transactions including purchasing, accounting and payroll, and Asset Management which involves ensuring that the Department is accountable for the acquisition and use of assets, and that those assets are maintained and audited according to state and federal requirements. She replaces Harris Hodges who has been promoted to the Corrections Division Director.
"Becky brings a wealth of experience and energy to this profession,” said Corrections Commissioner James Donald. "Her commitment to excellence as well as her merit of integrity has proven to be invaluable."
East began her career with the Department of Corrections as the Budget Director in 2006. Previously, East worked as the Budget Director for the Georgia Department of Public Safety and as the Budget Officer with the Georgia Department of Human Resources. Prior to that, she worked in various roles with the Department of Human Resources.
East completed her undergraduate studies at Mercer University and she is currently working on her Masters in Public Administration at Columbus State University with an anticipated graduation date of January 2010. Becky and her husband Alan have two children, Matthew and Mason, and reside in McDonough, Georgia.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 15,000 employees.
