Atlanta – Corrections Commissioner James E. Donald announced the appointment of Marcia Chapman as the new Chief Probation Officer of the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit, effective April 1, 2008.
“I have complete confidence in the leadership abilities of Marcia Chapman,” said Commissioner James E. Donald. “Her knowledge and professionalism have proved invaluable and will serve her well at the Cumming Probation Office.”
Chapman began her career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1987 as a Probation Officer I in the Cumming Probation Office. She was promoted to Probation Officer III in 1993. She performed the duties of Probation Officer in the Blue Ridge, Piedmont and Northeastern Judicial Circuits. In January 2000, she was promoted to the position of probation Training Unit Manager and in September 2006, she was named the North Georgia Corrections Academy Director.
Chapman is a 1987 graduate of the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. In 2006, she graduated from the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College with a Master of Public Administration. She completed the department’s Basic Management Training in 1998 and the Corrections Leadership Institute in 2001. Chapman is a firearms instructor, POST certified Sr. instructor and defensive tactics instructor. Marcia lives in Gainesville with her two children, Josh and Payton.
The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and 150,000 probationers. It is the largest law enforcement agency in the state with approximately 15,000 employees.
