MISSION:

Ensure public safety and effectively house offenders while operating a safe and secure facility by housing offenders with behavioral problems that cannot be addressed at other prisons and Mental Health Level II offenders. A prison boot camp and general population unit is attached outside the perimeter fence. The prison operates a Correctional Industries Mattress Plant and Optical Manufacturing Unit. Host facility for Northwest & Paulding PDC's.

HOUSING:

Four units: the Main Compound, a Special Management Unit (SMU), and Hays I & II. The Main Compound consists of five buildings which house 136 offenders each. The SMU has three buildings housing a total of 239 offenders on segregation status. The Annex consists of Hays I and houses 400 medium security offenders and Hays II is comprised of six quaznut huts housing 170 medium security offenders. The fire station houses 10 and the infirmary houses nine. Also has a Faith-Based dormitory.

WORK DETAILS

Annex and Boot Camp offenders support 21 outside details. These details include the Department of Transportation, Counties of Chattooga, Walker, Catoosa & Bartow as well as the cities of Trion, Lafayette, Cartersville and Rome.

DIRECTIONS:

Take I-75 North to Exit 306, Adairsville/Summerville Exit. Turn left onto Hwy 140 West for approximately 19 miles. Turn right onto Hwy 27 north for approximately 14 miles to Summerville city limits. Continue through Summerville for approximately five miles. Entrance to Hays State Prison is on the right.
