Residential facilities are reserved for those offenders who have been determined to be of too high a risk to public safety to remain in the community.

There is a wide range of residential facilities. There are community-based centers from which low-risk offenders are allowed to leave each day to work in the community, but there are also maximum security prisons in which high-risk offenders are confined to cells most of each day.

Residential facilities are expensive, ranging in price from $42 to $50 per day per offender, but they are essential to protect the citizens of Georgia.
