The nearly 13,000 employees for the Georgia Department of Corrections are its most valuable resource. Central Personnel Administration, the primary human resources office in the department, is responsible for all human resource functions within the department. From recruitment to retirement, Central Personnel helps every employee with any personnel-related issue.
Central Personnel provides assistance to management in interpretation and application of human resources law, policies and procedures. We do this not just for compliance, but because it makes good business sense.
As of June 30, 2010, the department employed 12,669 full-time employees. Of these, 12,097 employees (95% of the work force) work in the Corrections Division where they are responsible for direct offender supervision.

The Corrections Division is responsible for the supervision of sentenced offenders, from those confined to prison or sentenced to probation. The Administration Division is responsible for all administrative functions of the department, from budgets to purchasing. Operations, Planning and Training oversees programmatic and other services for employees and offenders. Executive Operations, of which Central Personnel Administration is a part, consists of the Commissioner's Office and his staff.
