The nearly 13,000 employees for the Georgia Department of Corrections are its most valuable resource. Central Personnel Administration, the primary human resources office in the department, is responsible for all human resource functions within the department. As of June 30, 2010, the department employed 12,669 full-time employees. Of these, 12,097 employees (95% of the work force) work in the Corrections Division where they are responsible for direct offender supervision.

The Administration Division is responsible for all administrative functions of the department, from budgets to purchasing.
